Getting Started
Your first step is to check in with yourself and your parts if you’re really wanting and ready to start doing internal work. It’s a commitment of time, effort and money and it needs to fit and work within the rest of your life and priorities.
You may be invited to take actions, journaling or self check-ins between sessions and should have adequate space in your life for developing the self-curiosity you unleash during our hours together whilst at home with yourself.
I’ve included this section on the website about therapy for you to explore and to understand a little more what to expect from sessions and what is expected of you for full participation. I suggest you read this section of the website in full before making any decisions.
I would also suggest you put 5 mins aside for an internal check in, below.
Check in:
Take a moment to sit down, close your eyes, take a few deep breathes and check what comes up for you when you think about starting sessions. Write down whatever you discover and allow space for different parts with conflicting thoughts and feelings. You might get to know each part better through your course of treatment and they might reveal real concerns that need addressing or investigating before you start.
Deciding on a practitioner:
If and when you are confident to proceed, consider reaching out to more than one practitioner to arrange a discovery or introductory call and check for availability, pricing and compatibility. It’s important you feel safe and excited to start work with whomever you choose. You can trust your instincts and it’s important to remember that there are many wonderful practitioners out there who will all support your healing in different ways. Try not to attach to any one practitioner before working with them. Stay open to the many people who are out there ready and wanting to support your healing.
Anticipate the possibility of rejection as good practitioners are often full or operating a waitlist. However spaces do come up and you might get lucky and fall into just the right hands at just the right time.
Resourcing yourself:
It can be helpful to tell some friends or family that you’re looking to start therapy or counselling or personal healing work so you have a support system behind you in the outside world.
Ensure you have some funding in place and an idea of how frequently you want and can afford to have sessions and if it’s for time-limited work, for how long.
Working with me:
With me, I will let you know if I have spaces, am available for an intro call, have an opening on my waitlist or are unable to accommodate anyone new. I will keep my website updated with availability on the homepage. I am always happy to hear from you, whether or not I can accommodate you and I do my best to reply, even if I can’t see you, so you know where you stand.
You can reach out to my via the webform or via my email address:
If we are fortunate enough to be able to work together, after having an intro call, I will ask you to read and sign and return my Client Consent to Treatment Form, including my payment and cancellation policy and to make the payment for your first session in advance.
Our first session may be a standard 60 minute session or we may discuss a 90 min assessment to get us started. Standard sessions are 60 mins thereafter, can be 75-90 mins by negotiation and are 90 mins as standard for couples. Quoted prices are always per hour and are pro-rated accordingly for longer sessions.
Standard sessions are by Zoom. In person sessions will be available in some instances.
