Working with Couples
Often after working with one individual for a long time I get requests to support that individual in a relational dynamic with their partner, to speak with both parties together on a matter requiring mediation or to support their partner with a personal issue affecting the clients wellbeing.
I am comfortable to provide mediation and communication support to couples when I feel it’s within the remit of my competency. Please enquire if it’s something you are interested in.
I have taken a Relational Life Therapy (RLT) Level 1 training, I am reasonably well read in a number of couples therapy modalities, have taken the Intimacy from the Inside Out (IFIO) online programme for IFS practitioners in 2024 with Toni Herbine-Blank and am looking to take further RLT trainings in 2025 with an interest to broaden into couples work in the future.
I am not a trained or certified Couples Therapist or Counsellor at the time of writing this.
I am passionate about healthy communication in relationships and seek to learn, grow and model that in my own relationships.
I am confident and competent in supporting individuals and couples to have conversations about their sexuality and to learn to navigate conflict, rupture and repair in respectful ways.
There can be conflict between being an individual’s therapist/practitioner and a couple’s mediator in many circumstances. If I don’t feel able to hold both parties in warm regards and protect and advocate for both my client and the relationship then I reserve the right to refuse increasing the complexity of the work and the boundaries to incorporate the 3rd party.
I may change my scope of work over time. Please feel free to enquire. You will be asked to sign a consent form for any couples sessions undertaken.
